WHAT DOES bIRTH DOULA SUPPORT LOOK LIKE WITH ROOTED?

Our birth doulas offer continuous support throughout pregnancy, labor, and birth.

1. Before your estimated due date, you will meet with your doula for one or more prenatal sessions, depending on when the care relationship begins and your individual needs. These sessions typically last between one and two hours.

2. During prenatal sessions, you will have time to build a trusting relationship with your doula so you feel comfortable with them attending your birth. The goal of these sessions is to empower you with the information and confidence you need to feel prepared and supported as your due date approaches. Together, you will explore comfort measures and coping strategies for labor, review medical options and common interventions, and discuss any fears or concerns you may have about labor and birth. You and your doula will also create a list of birth preferences that reflect your values and vision.

3. When you go into labor, your doula will be on call to join you when you need them, most often during active labor. They will use their understanding of your wishes and preferences to provide continuous emotional and physical support, offer reassurance to your partner, and work collaboratively with your care team to help ensure you feel respected and heard.

4. Following your birth, your doula will remain with you for a few hours to support you during the early postpartum period. Typically, your doula will also visit you at home within the first week after birth, if you and your family feel ready.

Doulas provide highly individualized care to meet the unique needs of each client, so support may look different from person to person.
